On the afternoon of January 11th, in Thuan Thanh township, the People's Committee of Bac Ninh officially inaugurated a hi-tech waste-to-energy plant, which cost 74 million USD. The plant was an investment cooperation project between Thuan Thanh Environment JSC and JFE Engineering Corporation (Japan).

The plant's construction started in January 2022 and was completed in October 2023 with a waste treatment capacity of 600 tons/day and night, an electricity generation capacity of 13.5 MW, and a total investment of 74 million USD.

As expected, after 2 years of construction, the high-tech domestic solid waste treatment plant generates energy, invests in waste-to-heat treatment technology in Bac Ninh province, and will operate commercially in the second quarter of 2024.

At the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Tetsuya Yagi, Deputy Minister of the Environment of Japan, said that this was a project of great interest to the Government, ministries, and agencies from the two countries and was one of the typical projects in the series of investment promotion activities between the Governments of Viet Nam and Japan. Mr. Tetsuya Yagi expressed hope that the factory would soon contribute to improving waste treatment efficiency to minimize environmental pollution and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, through public-private cooperation between the two countries, Viet Nam and Japan will work together towards great goals of environmental protection and adaptation to climate change.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh said that this is the second waste-to-energy plant in Bac Ninh completed and put into operation. In 2024 and the following years, Bac Ninh will be determined to thoroughly treat waste with waste incineration plants with the most advanced technology in the world.
