The Vietnamese delegation has just attended the 32nd session of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission General Assembly (IOC) in Paris, France at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Speaking at the plenary session, the Head of the delegation, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dao Viet Ha highly appreciated the role of the IOC as the United Nations' main coordinating body on ocean science issues. Ms. Dao Viet Ha affirmed that Viet Nam always supports the IOC to strengthen its role in promoting international cooperation for the conservation and sustainable use of seas and oceans. As a member of the UNESCO Executive Council, Viet Nam co-sponsors the draft UNESCO Resolution on strengthening resources more sustainably for the IOC's activities.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Viet Ha emphasized, Viet Nam attaches great importance to development and international cooperation in marine science and technology, considering it as one of the key solutions to implement the strategy for sustainable development of Viet Nam's marine economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045. Besides sharing Viet Nam's efforts in developing a sustainable ocean economy and responding to ocean-related challenges, Ms. Dao Viet Ha also informed about cooperation projects within the framework of the IOC Sub-Committee for the Western Pacific – IOC/WESTPAC in Viet Bam. The head of the Vietnamese delegation called on countries to strengthen international cooperation at all levels, taking into account the needs of developing countries, especially vulnerable coastal countries.
