Taking on the role of Chairman of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management, in 2023, MARD will coordinate with the ASEAN Secretariat, AHA Center and ASEAN member states to organize ASEAN Ministerial Meetings and a series of technical-level meetings on disaster management in 2023 in Viet Nam to implement the Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response.
The main content of meetings, conferences and activities in the year of Viet Nam's presidency in 2023 will focus on reviewing and evaluating the progress of implementing the Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response Working Program in the period of 2021-2025; adjust the contribution to the AHA Center Fund, the operation of the AHA Center to support ASEAN Member States in disaster response and propose priorities as well as mobilize support resources for the implementation of the Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response Working Program, coordinating the response to major disasters in the region with the role of Chairman of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management in 2023; cooperation with China, Japan and Korea.
Hosting a major forum on disaster management in the ASEAN region is Viet Nam's obligation and also helps the host country improve its role, prestige and position in the region and in the international arena, at the same time enlist the support of the international community for Viet Nam's disaster prevention and control, actively contribute to building a resilient ASEAN community, thereby contributing to the country’s common development.
