In the field of cartography and remote sensing, in recent years, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has focused on performing the task of managing borders and boundaries; focus on modernizing the management of national geographic information data; application of remote sensing technology for management and monitoring of natural resources and environment.

An important highlight in the first half of 2023 is that the Government has approved the Strategy for the development of Viet Nam's surveying and mapping  and building a national geospatial data infrastructure by 2030, with a vision to 2045. The strategy sets out important orientations for the mapping sector in the coming time.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare documents to participate in negotiations and demarcate the remaining 16% on the land border between Viet
Nam and Cambodia; coordinate in bilateral technical inspection of the entire border line according to the Protocol on demarcation and planting of border markers on the mainland of Viet Nam - China; carry out border management work and build a database and set up a standard set of maps on the Viet Nam - Laos land border line; join ministries and branches in negotiating and settling issues with relevant countries in the East Sea.

In the coming time, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and localities to survey, measure and determine the border line on the land border between Viet Nam and China; prepare technical manpower and equipment to demarcate and set up landmarks for the remaining 16% on the land border between Viet Nam and Cambodia according to the negotiation scheme after the two sides agree.

In the field of remote sensing, MONRE is guiding the implementation of the "Project on Remote Sensing Application for Socio-Economic Development" and continuing to complete the project "Investing in building a national geospatial database to serve the construction of national geospatial data infrastructure and e-Government”.

In the coming time, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will support Indian partners in implementing items using aid capital of the project "Building a station for detecting and receiving data and a center for processing satellite image data” under the framework of ASEAN-India cooperation.
