In 2023, the theme of World Oceans Day was launched by the United Nations "Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing", with the meaning that Oceans cover most of the Earth, but only a small portion of the seas have been discovered. Although humanity's life depends on the ocean, the ocean is receiving only a small part of our attention. However, everything on Earth is changing, both on land and in the vast, deep oceans. Humanity needs to act together, cherish and protect the ocean as well as our entire blue planet.
Implementing the Law on Sea and Island Natural Resources and Environment as well as guidelines, policies and laws on management, exploitation, efficient and sustainable use of natural resources, and environmental protection of seas and islands, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment launched the theme of Viet Nam Seas and Islands Week (June 1 - 8) in 2023 “Exploitation and sustainable use of resources, environmental protection of sea and islands”.
Responding to Viet Nam Seas and Islands Week, World Oceans Day 2023, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment continues to request ministries, departments, sectors, central organizations and People's Committees of provinces and cities to focus on propaganda of the Party's viewpoints and undertakings, the State's policies and laws, and international law on seas and islands; the lawful and legitimate rights and interests of Vietnam at sea; location, role and importance of seas, islands and oceans; of resources and environment of sea and islands in sustainable development.
Based on actual conditions, ministries, sectors and localities organize a series of activities of Viet Nam Seas and Islands Week in response to World Oceans Day 2023 such as hanging banners, panels, and posters. on the theme of Vietnam Sea and Islands Week and World Oceans Day 2023; workshops, conferences, seminars and forums on management, exploitation and rational, efficient, fair and sustainable use of marine and island resources; control pollution of the marine environment; protect, maintain and restore marine, coastal and island biodiversity; preserve and promote the values of natural heritage and marine cultural heritage; safe and sustainable fishing and fishing, proactively and effectively responding to climate change and sea level rise; scientific investigation and research on seas and islands as well as tidal and marine information systems to serve socio-economic development activities, ensuring national defense and security...
